LATE BEET - SALAD GREENS: This novel Chioggia Beet is actually an Italian Heirloom beet. Chioggia Beet is also known as candy stripe beet or bulls-eye beet, the round roots are 3 inches in diameter and produce alternating red and white concentric rings when sliced. Retains markings if baked whole and sliced immediately before serving.
SOWING ... Plant Chioggia beet seed outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Plant seeds 1 inch apart in rows 12 Inches apart and cover seed with 1/2 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow. For a continuous beet harvest, plant beet seed every two weeks until early August.
THINNING ... When Chioggia beet plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin to 3 to 4 inches apart in the row.

LATE BEET - SALAD GREENS: Detroit Dark Red Beet is a choice late variety, the tops making small upright growth, thus allowing planting in close rows, important where space is limited. Skin and flesh deep red, showing no light zones. Tender, fine-grained and very sweet, Detroit Dark Red Beet is a splendid variety for canning or for winter storage.
